It’s Eleanor Roosevelt’s (1884-1962) birthday today. She was the wife of US president Franklin D. Roosevelt, and served as First Lady from 1933 until the president’s death in 1945. She continued to work in politics right up until her own death.
She was a great humanitarian, an amazingly strong woman for her time, and one of the most outspoken women to have resided in the White House. She is perhaps the first lady by which all first ladys since will be measured.
